Ms. Gowri Subbaiyah is the Managing Partner of Syarikat P. Subbaiyah since 2012 replacing her late father, the founder of the legal firm, Datuk PK. Subbaiyah. She was born and raised in Penang. Her passion for law sparked at a tender age where she used to accompany her father, who was one of the famous lawyers in Penang, to the courts to watch proceedings.

Her desire to follow her father’s footsteps acted as the force which drove her to embark on the legal journey. She enrolled herself in Institute Perkim Goons, Penang in 1997 instantly after her Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia. Upon her completion of A Levels and Intermediate, she pursued her Part 1 and Part 2 in Advance Tertiary College, Penang. Ms. Gowri graduated with a 2nd class (Lower Division) in 2002. It is notable, she had won the book prize for outstanding performance. After accomplishing her degree in law, she completed the Certificate in Legal Practice in 2003. Her pupilage was under the mentorship of Datuk P. Subbaiyah and was subsequently admitted to the Bar on August 2004.

Ms. Gowri, initially, was the legal assistant in the firm handling personal injury cases. Embarking into her fourteenth year of practice, she has hands on in conveyancing matters including drafting and preparing documentations, handling litigation matters especially getting up cases on garnishment, bankruptcy as well as advising corporate clients on matters relating to Civil Litigation involving Contractual Disputes. She deals with property, land and real estate offenses too. She has been successful in a few cases concerning illegal disposition, land grabbing, transfer of title through forged documents and removal of caveats and provides clients with a solution to these illegal offenses. She has also been instrumental in settling disputes for squatter matters in negotiating successful settlements in the rural areas. She specializes in Family Law especially in settling family disputes involving division of property and custody of children. She believes in settling all family disputes by mutual settlements rather than battling it out in court and aspires to be a mediator someday. Currently, she has undertaken a few medical negligence cases which is under progress and is also focusing on applications for citizenship for adopted but stateless children, where she aspires to shed light on the lives of these children.

Ms. Gowri was elected as a member of the Penang Bar Committee in 2017/18 and is at present serving as a Chairperson for two sub-committees; Family Law and Publication. She is also a member of the Medico-Legal Society Of Malaysia.
